PASTOR KEVIN L. MAXWELL

A native of Greensboro, North Carolina, he is the son of Robert and Frances Maxwell. Elder Maxwell graduated from James B. Dudley High School in 1988, received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Special Education from North Carolina A&T State University and obtained his Master’s Degree in Special Education with a concentration in Behavior Disorders from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina. Presently, he is pursuing a Doctorate of Philosophy in Specialized Education Services from University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

His teaching career began in Asheville, North Carolina as a Behaviorally and Emotionally Handicapped (BEH) educator. He served as a Reading and Math remediation teacher and later became Site Coordinator for Communities in Schools of Asheville. Presently, he is the Academic Coordinator with the Upward Bound Program at North Carolina A&T State University.

Elder Maxwell heard and responded to the call of God concerning the preaching ministry in 1996. He preached his initial sermon “LOOKING FOR LOVE IN ALL THE WRONG PLACES!” on September 27, 1996. After completion of the Greater North Carolina Jurisdiction of the COGIC Academy, he was ordained an Elder under the leadership of Bishop Leroy J. Woolard. Elder Maxwell served Johnson Memorial COGIC in Asheville, North Carolina faithfully. He labored as Administrative Assistant Pastor, Minister of Worship, Intercessory Prayer Coordinator, Singles’ Ministry President, Drama Ministry President, Pastor’s Aide Vice-President, Male Choir Director, Asheville District Youth Director and Drama Ministry Consultant. Once moving back to Greensboro, Elder Maxwell served as Associate Minister at Faith Baptist Church in Gibsonville, North Carolina. In August of 2006, Elder Maxwell was appointed Pastor of Thacker’s Memorial UHC, in Brown Summit, North Carolina. Under his leadership, the name was changed to City of Refuge Outreach Ministries.

Elder Maxwell loves seeing the people of God delivered and living VICTORIOUS lives. He is a firm believer wherever the Lord is glorified; the power of the enemy is destroyed.
